Description:
Detail of illumination from the Kulliyat (Collected Works) of the Persian poet Sa'di. The gold and blue colouring can be found throughout the manuscript, particularly in the first four pages. Read widely throughout the world and influencing the writings of individuals such as Diderot, Hugo and Voltaire, the works of Sa'di (d.1291), were first collected into a single volume during the fourteenth century and are known for their social and moral themes. An illustrated volume of Sa'di's Kulliyat, the miniatures from this manuscript appear to depict scenes from within the text and are rich in both colour and detail. Sources: Arnold, E.
