Description:
|
Thomas Glass was a student of medicine at Leiden University where he graduated Doctor of Medicine in 1731. He first set up practice in Exeter where he became a physician at the Devon and Exeter Hospital. He worked on the preparation of magnesia alba, published an essay on its use and sold the formula to a firm of chemists. Glass's assertion that his was the correct formula for magnesia alba was hotly contested by a Manchester chemist, Thomas Henry (1734-1816), who claimed to have discovered it himself. Glass also was also known for being an expert on smallpox.
