Description:
The philosopher David Hume is a world figure and is perhaps the most important and most widely influential of all alumni of the university. This book from his library is of particular interest as Nicolas Malebranche (1638-1715), Jesuit and follower of Descartes, was an important influence on his thought. Hume accepted most of his skeptical conclusions about causation and the way in which we acquire a sense of morality. However, he rejected Malebranche's contention that all philosophical problems are ultimately explained by reference to God.
