Description:
|
Charles Bell wrote this book for the benefit of artists and it was indeed widely influential. It may appear to be a digression from his surgical investigations of the brain and nervous system, nevertheless his biographer Amedee Pichot argued that it contained the germ of his later discoveries. Bell in fact saw expression as a route into the mind and therefore the study of both facial expression and body language (in animals as well as humans) as an important part of his research into the brain.
