This figure shows the medulla oblongata and pons, the seven pairs of cranial nerves recognised by Vesalius (there are, in fact, 12 pairs) , the cervical cord, the thoracic cord, the lumbar cord, the sacral and coccygeal cord and all their pairs of nerves, lettered A-G. See also Saunders & O'Malley.
