Image not in Stevenson, found in Glasgow University Library: Chalmers (d. 1864), the brother of Rev Dr Thomas Chalmers, was on the Free Church Committee in Edinburgh. He was the Headmaster of the Merchiston Castle School . Merchiston, the 15th c home of the Napier family, was where logarithms were invented. Chalmers is the subject of a print in the Glasgow collection, HA051, and two negatives, HA537-HA538, and is depicted with his wife in a series of three negatives, HA587-HA589 and with his entire family in another, HA591.
