Description:
Three-quarter length portrait of Sir Walter Scott, aged thirty-three, sitting with his dog, Camp. The original portrait by James Saxon was painted in 1805 for Sir Walter Scott's wife Charlotte and subsequently ceded to Scott's London publisher Longmans who wished to have it engraved. It now belongs to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery. The engraving by James Heath was published as the frontispiece to the second impression of Scott's The Lady of the Lake (1810).
