Description:
Detail of page from an album of Kush Khati (Calligraphy). The Qit'at-i Khushkhatt is an album of Persian Calligraphy (Khush Khati), dating to the seventeenth or eighteenth century CE. It is written in seven different types of character, including Nasta'liq, Naskh and Raihan among others. Generally conforming to the format of large letters in the centre with small outside, the album also contains two portraits of females, as well as two other pictures, probably woodcuts, all in black ink. In the manuscript, eight signatures can be found, bearing the names Mir Ali, Malik, Ahmad al-Husaini, Mu'izz al-Din Muhammad a-Husaini, Muhammad Husain al-Tabrizi, Sultan Muhammad Nur, Sultan Muhammad Khandan and Shah-Mahmud Nishapuri. All of the examples have been pasted onto European marble paper, which was often used in up-market books during the 19th century.
