This magnificent photograph taken by Joe Rock of the south-east corner of the Jerusalem Sacred Precinct ('the Pinnacle of the Temple') shows strata from Herodian (Roman) ashlar blocks to restoration work at the top of the wall, undertaken after 1865. The larger window gives onto 'The Cradle of Jesus', a Muslim pilgrimage site during the Ottoman period and used as a mosque. Beyond are the vaults of 'Solomon's Stables' under the 7th-century Al-Aqsa Mosque.
